AP Capstone
How AP Capstone Works
AP Capstone, officially known as the Advanced Placement Capstone Diploma Program, is a 2-year program for high school students developed by the College Board that consists of two courses: the AP Seminar and AP Research.
Assessment
AP scores for both courses are based on teacher assessment of student presentation components and College Board scoring of student-written components plus an end-of-course exam (for AP Seminar only).
Awards
Students who earn scores of 3 or higher in AP Seminar and AP Research and on four additional AP Exams of their choosing receive the AP Capstone Diploma™. Students who earn scores of 3 or higher in AP Seminar and AP Research but not on four additional AP Exams receive the AP Seminar and Research Certificate™.

College Counseling
The FAS HS college counseling program works in partnership with students, parents, and staff to provide a comprehensive counseling program that aligns with our school's mission and core values and to strive to prepare all FAS students by supporting their personal and academic goals as well as their social/emotional development and college/ career readiness to nurture communicative, confident leaders.
We strive to focus on academic excellence, character development, leadership, and service in our future FAS graduates. Our goal is to work with our students to provide them with the guidance they deserve to help them fulfill their goals and achieve their dreams. We will advise our students to ensure that they explore all of their options before making their final decision. Our program assists students in areas of academic achievement, personal/social development, and college/career awareness.
Curriculum
FAS strives to prepare all students to live rich, literate lives and to be active, informed citizens. In order to do so, students need access to rigorous, comprehensive and engaging English Language Arts curricula. Students should have the opportunity to read a variety of texts, make informed judgments that are grounded in evidence and communicate their thinking through oral, written, and artistic expressions. Students are provided with this opportunity at FAS through our Collections comprehensive curriculum for grades 9-12.
For each grade level, units of study have been divided into six “Collections” that are guided by essential questions. The curriculum emphasizes the development of the skills of reading comprehension, analysis, and critical thinking. All courses are designed in a manner that challenges students to develop unity, coherence, and clarity, as well as fluency in the communication of ideas through oral and written composition for both native and non-native speakers.
