Academics
Curriculum Overview
At Forsan American School our Curriculum is based on American Common Core State Standards in which students take traditional subjects which include, Reading and Writing, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, World Languages, Arts, Drama, Music, Information Technology, and Physical Education. The curriculum for PreK-12 emphasises inquiry-based, student centered, world class learning, which develops global students. Students demonstrate their learning through tests, written assignments, oral presentations, projects, demonstrations, and discussions. Students in grades K-12 participate in MAP (Measures of Academic Progress) testing. Students in grades K-8 are assessed in reading using Fountas and Pinnell benchmark assessments to determine their reading levels. High school students also participate in the SAT and ACT assessments as part of their college application process.

Definition of Learning: What does it mean to learn at FAS?
Learning is the acquisition of knowledge which allows us to step into new scholastic territories. Learning allows us to build on our academic foundations, further our curiosity and deepen our understanding of new concepts. Through learning we become inquirers and risk takers.
Learning Principles
Learning happens best when:
Learners are risk takers
They are eager to try new things.
Learners are open minded
They listen to other people and respect their ideas.
Learners are communicators
They are able to express themselves and work with others.
Learners are responsible
They take ownership of what they are learning.
Learners are reflective
They are always thinking of ways to be better.
Learners are honest
They have integrity—they do the right thing in all circumstances, even when no one is watching.
Learners are balanced
They make time for the things they want to do and the things they have to do. They take care of their emotional, social, and physical wellbeing.
